Chirk Landmarks Round – Run the Borderlands

Discover a trail route where history, landscape and adventure collide. The Chirk Landmarks Trail is a 13.2-mile journey through some of the most striking scenery on the England–Wales border; perfect for runners, walkers, and groups looking for something beyond the ordinary.

Starting at Caffi Wylfa, the route immediately immerses you in the area’s industrial heritage as you pass beneath the towering Chirk Aqueduct and Chirk Viaduct; two feats of engineering that dominate the Ceiriog Valley skyline.

From there, the trail softens into the quiet beauty of Oliver’s Wood and Pentre Wood, where shaded paths and natural terrain offer a complete contrast to the dramatic opening. A visit to the mysterious Temple Stones adds an ancient dimension, connecting you to a landscape shaped over thousands of years.

The adventure continues along the canal, where you’ll pass through the atmospheric Chirk Tunnel and Whitehouses Tunnel (headtorch firmly recommended) before emerging onto the legendary Offa’s Dyke Path. Here, you’ll run or walk alongside one of Britain’s oldest boundary markers, with sweeping views across the borderlands.

The final stretch delivers a fitting finale: a run along the front of the imposing Chirk Castle, a medieval fortress steeped in history, before returning to the café for a well-earned coffee and cake.
