We are proud to announce the Garden of Wales Duathlon, the finale of our Spring Duathlon Series, hosted within the spectacular grounds of the National Botanic Garden of Wales.
Set in the heart of the Carmarthenshire countryside, this unique duathlon combines off road trail running through landscaped grounds and natural terrain, with road cycling on quiet, scenic rural roads surrounding the estate. The venue offers a rare blend of sporting challenge and natural beauty, making it a fitting stage for the closing event of the series.
The National Botanic Garden of Wales is one of the country’s most iconic outdoor spaces, renowned for its sweeping parkland, wooded valleys, and world class horticultural collections. Athletes will race through an environment where nature, design,
and endurance sport meet, delivering a course that is both inspiring and demanding.
We invite athletes of all ages and abilities to join us in May 2026 for a memorable race that celebrates community, challenge, and the landscapes of Wales. We anticipate 150–200 competitors, representing a wide range of experience levels.
Race HQ, transition, and athlete facilities will be centrally located within the National Botanic Garden grounds, providing a safe, accessible, and spectator-friendly hub for the
event.

Bike Route
Run
Elevation Gain: 90m
Surface: Mixed trail (tarmac paths, compacted gravel, woodland tracks)
A flowing and picturesque trail run set entirely within the grounds of the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Both run legs use the same scenic loop, allowing athletes to become familiar with the terrain while still being challenged by its variety.
Starting close to the transition area, runners head out onto wide, well maintained paths before entering a network of woodland trails that wind through the heart of the estate. The course gently undulates throughout, with short climbs and descents that test rhythm rather than raw power. Underfoot conditions are generally firm, with occasional gravel and natural trail sections adding interest and character.
Midway through the loop, the route drops into a sheltered wooded valley, where runners pass alongside streams and shaded paths, before climbing gradually back toward open
parkland. The latter stages of the course reward effort with sweeping views across the surrounding countryside, offering a real sense of place and immersion in the landscape.
Bike
Elevation Gain: 400m
Surface: 100% road
A scenic and testing road bike course that showcases the rolling countryside surrounding the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Leaving transition, riders quickly move onto quiet rural roads that form a large loop through the Carmarthenshire landscape, offering a rewarding blend of speed, endurance, and sustained climbing.
The opening section features a steady rise as athletes leave the estate, encouraging controlled pacing early on. This is followed by long, flowing stretches of road where riders can settle into rhythm, interspersed with short, sharper climbs that demand good gear choice and focus.
Around the midpoint, the route flattens slightly, allowing for faster riding before the course delivers its most notable climbing in the latter stages. These longer ascents are balanced by smooth descents, where confident bike handling and line choice are rewarded.
