Join us for the 6th year of this much-loved summer evening running event. Set against stunning seaside views, the Sunset Running Festival offers something for everyone – from first-timers to seasoned endurance athletes.
Choose your challenge, run at your own pace, and soak up the supportive, festival-style atmosphere as the sun sets.
WHY RUN?
This is more than just a race.
It’s a friendly, inclusive running experience where you’ll share the course with runners who will motivate, encourage and inspire you all the way to the finish line.
Open to all abilities - whether you’re chasing a PB or simply enjoying the journey.
EVENT INFO
Location & Terrain
The course follows a flat, tarmac seaside promenade, offering wide paths, ocean views and potentially favourable running conditions.
No hills
No undulations

DISTANCES
This is a lap-based event, with each lap measuring just over 7km, giving you complete flexibility over how far you run.
Choose from:
7km - 1 lap (£20 / £18 Scottish Athletics Members)
Half Marathon - 3 laps (£30 / £28 Scottish Athletics Members)
Individual Marathon - 6 laps (£45 / £43 Scottish Athletics Members)
Relay Marathon - minimum 1 lap per runner (£60 - up to 6 runners)
6 Hour Ultra Challenge - how many laps can you complete in 6 hours? (£45 / £43 Scottish Athletics Members)
KIDS RACE
A 1km kids (£2) race takes place alongside the main event, giving younger runners the chance to be part of the festival and experience the buzz of race day.
Timings
6 Hour Ultra Challenge: 3pm – 9pm
Early Marathon Start (for runners expecting 5+ hours): 3pm
1 km kids race: 4 pm
7km, Half Marathon, Relay Marathon & Marathon: 5pm

Route information
Location and Terrain
The course is set along a flat, tarmac, seaside promenade, offering oceanic views and potentially favourable running conditions.
There are no hills or undulations which gives runners a good chance of achieving personal bests or fast times!
Event Format
The event is lap-based, with each lap measuring just over 4 miles. This format allows participants to choose their preferred distance.
Distance options:
7k (1 lap)
Half Marathon (3 laps)
Individual Marathon (6 laps)
Relay Marathon (min 1 lap each runner)
6 Hour Ultra Challenge (how many full laps can you complete in 6 hours?)
1k kids fun run
Aid Stations
Water Stations are available twice per lap. This ensures participants have access to hydration to support their performance every 2 miles.
Course Support
Marshals will be stationed along the course to guide and assist participants.
First Aiders will also be present, ensuring the safety and well-being of the runners.
Kids Race
In addition to the main races, there's a 1KM kids race. This provides an opportunity for younger participants to join the event and experience the joy of running!

15:00 6 Hour Ultra Challenge and early marathon starts
16:00 Kids 1km fun run starts
17:00 7k, 21k, 42k and relay marathon starts
21:00 Cut-off time and event ends (6 hour marathon cut off - for runners who anticipate taking over 4.5 hours to complete their marathon we offer a 15:00 start)
Age Requirements
- Marathon and 6 Hour Ultra Challenge: All participants must be 18 years or older to participate in this race.
- Half Marathon: All participants must be 16 or older to participate in this race.
- 7k: All participants must be 11 or older to participate in this race.
Relay Team
Relay teams can be from 2 to 6 runners, each to run at least 1 full lap.
Water Stations
There will be water stations every 2 miles, it is encouraged to bring your own water carrier or bottle to fill it up during the race.
Bag Drop
There will be unsecured baggage storage at the Runners' Area. The event organisers take no responsibility for your items.
